Why SAGE Camp at SLAC?
We’re so glad you’re considering sending your child to SAGE Camp. We know as a parent you see all the potential in your child to accomplish great things in this world. It takes a village to help our children thrive, and foster the potential they may not even see in themselves. SAGE Camp wants to be a part of your village.
SAGE Camp at SLAC is a free, one-week residential camp for a diverse group of public high school students. The SAGE Mission is to engage curious and passionate young women, and empower them to explore a wide range of possibilities for their future.
Whatever your child is passionate about, SAGE provides an immersive look into the full, creative, and powerful lives of women who work in STEM.
The first step on the SAGE Journey is attending one of our exciting and unique summer camps. Once you are part of the SAGE Community, there are on-going activities, a growing network and support for the continued exploration of STEM. SAGE Camp can be the stepping stone to internships and jobs that lead to exciting and engaging careers.
Your child will have the opportunity to job shadow scientists, physicists, engineers and more. Your child will participate in hands-on experiences that show how work in STEM applies to everyday life, and this experience will empower them to bring positive change to your community and the world.
SAGE Camp is an important investment in your child’s future. The connections they will make at SAGE will be a valuable source of support and guidance, not just from the professionals that they will meet but also from their peers.

Please support your student as they apply to SAGE Camp. As minors, they will need your help in completing the SAGE Application Form as it relates to family information. They will also need you to certify that the information being submitted is accurate.

Parent FAQs
What parts of the program can parents participate in?
Parents, guardians and family members are invited to attend the first hour of Opening Day of SAGE Camp at SLAC. The last day of SAGE Camp at SLAC is also open to teachers, parents and family members.
What type of activities will students do at camp?
At SAGE Camp at SLAC, there will be a variety of activities. Check out this page to get an idea of how the week will go!
What should students plan to bring to camp?
A packing list is included in your pre-camp welcome packet, which will be emailed to you in early June. A few things to note: Must wear comfortable closed-toe shoes to access some of the buildings during the tours. Bring a sweater or jacket as it cools down in the evenings. It’s best to wear layers to adapt to a wide range of temperatures indoors and out. No need to bring towel or beddings but bring your own toiletries and personal grooming items. Use the packing list as a checklist. Feel free to bring a portable fan if you like to stay cool indoors during the summer. And an extra towel or pillow if you think you might need it.
Where will students live, and what is the rooming and bathroom situation?
Students will be staying in a typical dormitory room. There are bathrooms for men, women, as well as individual facilities (showers, sinks, toilets) down the hall from the rooms. Plan to wear comfortable pajamas and slippers that you can wear to the bathroom at night or early morning. Bring a small "shower caddy/basket" to hold all your toiletries for your trip to the bathroom.
What is check-in time and check-out time for SAGE Camp at SLAC?
Check-in time is from 12 pm to 1 pm on Sunday June 23rd, 2024 (first day of camp). The check-in location to be specified as we get closer to camp dates. Camp concludes at 11:45 am on Saturday June 29th.
How will the SAGE students get around?
Transportation will be arranged by SAGE. Students will stay together as a group during the tours and when traveling between the dorm and the National Lab where most day-time activities will be held.
When is the best time for the parents to contact their children?
We suggest that parents, guardians, and family members contact their students only for emergencies in order to allow the students to truly experience for themselves their short week at SAGE Summer Camp.
How will the SAGE students be supervised during the camp?
Safety is highly valued at the National Labs. All camp participants attend a safety briefing at the start of camp. Adult chaperones have passed background checks and completed safety training requirements. Most activities will be in large indoor and outdoor spaces, in large groups, with some smaller group projects. At all times, we will have a minimum ratio of 1 adult per 10 students.
Who are the people that run the camp?
SAGE Camp at SLAC is run by scientists, engineers, and staff from SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. They support the SAGE mission by volunteering to spend time with the students during the week of camp.
